On my Exchange 5.5 servers I have a 5 hour window for the IS maintenance and it seems like the online defrag is trying to run every night and I wanted to know if that was normal. It seems like the priv.edb always gets interupted and has to start over. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Online defrag running all the time

If you have a very large priv.edb, 5 hours may not be enough time for the defrag to complete. Unless you are experiencing performance degradation, don't worry about it. Exchange also has a background defrag process that runs when there is available processor time. It doesn't reduce the reported size of the file, but it does compact the database.
