I have Acrobat 5 and Reader 8.1 installed.
But when opening a pdf online Acrobat 5 attempts to open, But I want it to open in Reader 8
(if Reader 8 is already open the file will open in this as expected)
I have use online checked in the reader setup but this doesnt seem to help.

We only need Acrobat for Distiller, so don't want to upgrade the version of Acrobat we have.

It's usually a matter of telling your computer and/or browser what to open ".pdf" in.

I'm on a mac so I can't help much with windows but, if you know how to set default apps for different file types, use that to set Reader as the default for pdf.

You might also look at prefs for your browser and see if there's a "helper app" selection where you specify what app to open things in. I haven't used IE in years, but seem to remember such a pref in that.

The default app for pdf's is set to Acrobat 8.

Also this only happens with online files.

If you use Internet Explorer, check its preferences. I think there used to be a section for "helper apps" whcih specified the app to open various types of files.

If you happen to use Firefox, that is located in preferences in the Content tab/file types/manage.

Ther is an AdobiePDF Link Helper, which is enabled. But there dont seem to be any settings, I can change
