Very strange problem in one of my stores.

All 5 terminals are plugged into a dummy switch that leads to our firewall.
Our BOH is plugged directly into the firewall as is the Wi-FI and NTN/Buzztime Server.

At 11:40pm on two consecutive nights and at 12:00am the third consecutive night the terminals are dropping
their internet connection at the same time, yet the internet remains active on Wi FI/NTN/BOH Server and my VPN Uptime is 100%.

I thought maybe it is a switch issue, however if I don't touch it, by 8am the next morning all connections are re-established and they work without issue all during the day and night until 11:40-12am and then go down again.

At first check we found the NIC Card on the Master Terminal was set to sleep with inactivity, we made that change yesterday, but no joy.

All Terms are running Windows XP, BOH is Windows 7 (32bit).

All Terms are set with Static IP's, so there should not be a DHCP Lease issue.

Anyone with ideas on this much appreciated.

It could be your router/WiFi. If your WIFI router is sending out IP addresses for the customers and overlap the IP of the terminals that are set to static then you can have a dropped connection. I would check the IP address of the terminals to see where they begin and where your WIFI router starts.

I don't know OnePOS but if you terminals do not need to be on the internet then I would segment your terminal by using another NIC card in the server and use a different IP scheme.

Cheers,

Turns out it was the switch, either overheating and shutting down on it's own and restarting once cooled only explanation I could find as once it was replaced we had zero issues. Odd behavior for a dummy switch but there's a first for everything. Thanks coorsman for your suggestion, appreciate the response.
