hello all, please help me settle a claim.

an engineer on my team claims that the 46xxsettings file is only used by physical phones, not softphones. is that true? when I launch One-X Communicator on my laptop, is it looking at the 46xxsettings file during the boot process?

is this referenced in one of the Avaya guides?

thanks.

It does not. If 1X did use 46xxsettings.txt it would need to be configured somewhere in the 1X software. I know of no place to configure that.

Indeed. However if you are using AADS, then there is actually a settings file involved (in some cases).

One-x can use the 46xxsettings file.

You need to define the location of the file on the web server via DHCP option 242.

Avaya said:
After Avaya one-X Communicator is installed on the personal computer of a user, the user must specify the configuration settings. Users cannot log in and use Avaya one-X Communicator until they configure these settings. To simplify the configuration process, Avaya one-X Communicator provides the Autoconfigure feature. When a user clicks the Auto-configure button in the General Settings dialog box, Avaya one-X Communicator retrieves the appropriate information from the DHCP server. This information is defined in the 46xxsettings.txt file hosted on an HTTP server. Avaya one-X Communicator retrieves the HTTP server IP address from the DHCP server.

thanks biglebowski but the question isn't if one-X can use the 46xxsettings file. the question is, do most engineers have One-X set up to use the 46xxsettings file and from feedback here, it seems like most do not.

I've got customers who use the 46xxsettings in 1XC - some provision it manually when setting up the software, others use the DHCP option. I've got a few that even modify the XML config files. There is an Avaya tool for managing these configurations also.
