One way audio on MM711 and MM714 analog cards

I have a customer who is a hospital. At the main location they have two G450's with a mix of analog, digital and PRI cards. Most of the phones are IP. They wanted to add a G430 with two MM711 cards for fax machines. Gateway is up and cards have dial tone, but when they call outside numbers (or are called) they have one way audio. Gateway has been replaced.

They have remote locations with G430's and LSPs. From those locations MM711 and MM714 cards can make and receive outside calls without an issue.

Initially this gateway was set up in a different Network Region and Location so that I could set up the ARS to use different trunks when the customer goes SIP. I moved it to the same Network Region/Location as the G450's and the issue was still there. Also, the remote locations are in different Network Regions/Locations, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I'll assume pure TDM is fine, as in, you can call within the gateway and hear audio the whole time.

If you do a "status station XXXX" while on a call you can see the audio path and ports. Can you open a call up, status the station and check the voice path? Verify with your network team this isn't a firewall/ACL issue?

If all the hardware is physically co-resident, they should all be in the same IPNR in most cases. If you need to send calls over different trunks, I'd look at PGN + COR combos.

The reason we put in the new gateway is that the customer is going with SIP, and the SIP carrier told them not to send fax traffice over the SIP lines. I set up the new IPNR in order to do location based ARS routing, which works out of their RightFax server, but not the analog fax lines.

This customer is remote, so not easy to set up a test. According to onsite testing, calls to/from the analog with an IP phone work fine. Calls within the G450s work fine. Its only when the analogs in the G430 go out the PRIs do they fail.

The new gateway is not necessary for seperating trunk traffic. Assign the fax machines/whoever needs alternate trunks to a COR that is part of a partition. Then use PGNs to choose a route pattern that specifically chooses the trunks you want. IPNR is better suited for network traffic isolation and bandwidth management.

Did you check the traffic IP/Ports and verify with your network team they are all open?

What carrier are you using for SIP? I want to avoid them in the future. I've had SIP services delivered from both AT&T and Verizon and we do fax over SIP without any issues.

We convert to analog once it reaches the site with gateways, or analog lines in the small onsite pbx, but we're also using AudioCodes mediapaks to convert from SIP to analog in some cases instead of a gateway. We also can use the AudioCodes device to provide copper line connections for 911 redundancy/resiliency.

Turned out that the new gateway had a 255.255.255.0 subnet, and the existing gateways were 255.255.254.0. When I fixed that the problem went away.

That's the same issue I had a couple weeks ago during a cutover, the subnet mask hosed us for 4 hours.
