Good morning everyone,

Can someone point me in the right direction for this?

Will I have to key in my own connection string to make it happen? What is the syntax for 2 data sources?

Also when I deploy this report based on 2 data sources, will the user have any trouble? I would like to use shared data sources.

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

TIA!
Sunny

Yes - very easily

In your data source view, from the drop down list, just add a new data source. Tell it where you want to get data from et voila...

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

xlbo,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm sorry, but could you please tell me what data source view you are talking about?

I thought I found it...it let me add a new data source to the report under the data tab, which is great. But how do I link it to the other data source?

It let's me add fields from both data sources to the report, but I want them to pull linked information.

I know I am doing something wrong and making it harder than it is. I am good at that.

Thanks for any help!
Sunny

aaaaaaah - you didn't mention that you need to link the information

You are in the right place for what I was suggesting but that won't work for what you need. There is no ability to link dtaa sets in RS. You can display them in the same report but in different controls as each control is tied to a specific data set

If you need to link th einformation, you need to do so in the query itself

SELECT a,b,c
FROM Table1InCurrentConnection INNER JOIN Server.Database.dbo.Table2 ON KeyField

Ok Thanks xlbo-

I figured I could straight out write a query to make the link happen- which I tried yesterday afternoon and it worked.

But I was hoping there was a wizard or something to make it happen.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I can stop looking through the books for it.

BTW- I read another post of your where you recommended the Hitchhiker's guide to SSRS 2000 and have ordered it. I guess I don't need it for this answer now, though!
:)

Thanks,
Sunny
