Got several windows 7 pro computers in a workgroup. Not using homegroup. One PC doesn't show under network. You can ping it via IP address but not by name, however you can browse its shares by \\ComputerName and map a drive to a shared folder. What's different about this one PC? What should I check for?
TCP/IP NetBIOS helper service is running.

The network settings for all PCs seem normal/correct
192.168.111.x
255.255.255.0
192.168.111.1 gateway
192.168.111.1 dhcp server
64.238.96.12
66.180.96.12

Network discovery: ON
File and Printer Sharing: ON
Public folder sharing: ON
File Sharing Connections: 128-bit
Password protected sharing: OFF
Homegroup connections: Allow

The NETBIOS name of this machine IS?

And are they all in the same "Workgroup"?

Chris.

Yeah, same workgroup.
Should I enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP on the WINS tab of IP config. This is not normally required.

There are like three PCs and two of them show up (names changed)

It will do no harm to try it.

Any particular one?

Or is it any 2 from 3?

Chris.

Of course I knew that but I always guard customer info. Also my ex-boss monitors my posts (not paranoid) to see if I might be stealing any of this customers.

From Joe-PC2013 you can see

It could be a broken network stack.

I tend to delete the network adapter in Device manager and let it reinstall. Sometimes fixes odd anomalies like this.

Yeah, this is not a critical issue because the sharing is working, but it's just like WTH.
