What was the Dev doing when it crashed, and what apps were running? You need to give me more information. If it is a DLL that was "Missing" something had to call that DLL. Check your programs, and look at the SERVER LOGS, specifically the application log. Find out what app failed and what DLL it was looking for.

hi steeldragon

the developer said he was doing something with the internet exploprer and explorer crashed and he restarted the machine. after that the system never came up except the blue screen. so i can even see any log etc.
but what i did is i reinstalled the nt 4.0 server in different partition and i checked path and size of the winsrv.dll file in the newly created nt server and then copied the winsrv.dll to the actual path c:\winnt\system32
and i tried to restart the server with the original installation but still iam getting the blue scree.
so i think the dev messed up the path from which the os will take all the dll's by default. but i donot know where the path will be metioned. sp pl.help.

thanks

You can fix that another way... if you have the NT recovery disk, restore the Registry and the original NT settings on the original partition, you may have to reinstall the other programs on the server, but it will take you less time this way that to reload the whole server. If that is not an option, or if you don't mind losing some of the work that has been done, restore the server from a previous nights back-up. If you don't like these options. or have any other questions, please reply, and I'll let you know what else you can try. There are several paths you can take at this point, but the question is what do you want to get as the end result, and what are you willing to part with if you need to. Hope that helps you a bit.

Good Luck,
SteelDragon
