Hello,
I have one machine that can not open any reports unless the report is set to a specific printer. The machine in question is running XP Pro (sp2) Office 2003 Pro (completely up to date). I have googled, checked here and a few other places and can not for the life of me figure it out.

At first I thought it might have been that the reports where set to a printer it didnt have, this isnt the case. They are set to default.

Any ideas?

Does the machine have a default printer identified and tested in Windows?

Yes. The default printer works fine for everything except access reports.

Can you even create a new report on the machine? If not, I would go back and un-set then re-set the default printer and make sure it is available and has the latest drivers.

Just tried to make a report on this machine and it wont. I also just did the un-set / re-set and that didnt work. If i set the reports to use one printer (any of the printers we have) it works fine.

I wonder if uninstalling / reinstalling the printers would help. All the printers are thru a 2003 server and install on startup.

I still think this is a default printer issue. I would check to see what is different about this machine. Does it make a difference who is logged in to the machine?

It doesnt appear to. (matter who is logged in) This is a freshly rebuilt machine. I added the printer again to look as if it is directly connected to the machine and the reports open. Although this is only a bandaid fix, Until I can get it sorted out.

Hi, if you are running off networked printers and have no printer assigned to the LPT-1 port, try assigning a printer to the LPT-1 port. It does not have to be physically connected or even exist for that matter. I have run into this a couple times and it usually cures the 'won't print access reports' problem.

Hope that helps.
