Hello,

I have inherited a catalog of 50 pages where all text frames, image frames, tables, and vectors reside on one layer (a flat but editable plain). Is there a script or a faster way other than selecting each element component and copy and pasting each image, text, table and vector onto it's own layer for each of the 50 pages.

The printer/pre press insists that all text be on the top layer because of the overprint rip issue. I really wish to develop this catalog correctly and want to develop the document correctly.

Each page consists of mini text frames and mini image frames along with tables and different backgrounds.

Your help in this matter would be appreciated.

Thank you

...it is best to have text above images and objects that utilize transparency effects, see here for a graphical explanation:

...if your elements below you text are not using effects it won't be a problem...

...a better solution may be to use photoshop on the images below your text and update your indesign files so that layer effects aren't an issue with the text above it...

...if your pages are set up with text below image frames that use effects you will have to go through it manually and move each element onto a new layer. If you have the spare cash, pay your prepress provider the studio time to do it for you. There is no quick solution that I have ever found to over come this, other than planning for it before creating a project...

...the joys of prepress...

...the dirty solution is to export the text to outlines in the pdf export settings, text becomes thicker than text that hasn't been converted...
