I think this should be a simple setup but I can't get it working, so I am looking for help.

I have a home network setup as follows. I have a cable modem, which then goes to a 5 port switch. From the switch, I have a VOIP router, but thats not part of this. Coming off that switch, is a linksys router (WRT54G), which then goes to my PC's. My problem is, as I download a lot of torrents, my router locks up frequently (common problem on home routers, they can't handle the number of connections). So, I now have my main PC off the router, and on a port on the switch. This solves my torrent problem, but not my PC can't see the rest of the network.

So my plan was to add a second NIC to this PC, and have that nic then goto the router. I want to then setup all traffic to go over the first NIC (to the internet), except for the private network range (192.168.1.x). So if I type in a 192 IP, it goes to the nic going to the router, otherwise it goes to the NIC.
This allows the PC to be both on the internet through the switch, but also on the internal network via the router.

I know ICS could allow someting like this, but I don't want to share my internet connection over the 2nd nic.

So, can I do this or no?

This is actually pretty simple. Once you've got your second NIC installed, you'll need to add a route. Open up a dos prompt and type:

route add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.x

the 192.168.1.x should actually be the ip address of your second NIC. This route will send all traffic that is destined for the 192.168.1.0 subnet out of the second NIC.

If you just type 'route' you'll get all the possible syntax for the route command. 'Route print' will show you your routes.
