I have a quickie question re: exchange....

if one user sends out an email with a 2MB attachment to 25 other users in the same company/exchange store - is that attachment saved once inside exchange, or is it multiplied 25 times - so taking up 50MB of space???

I can't say this for sure, but my assumption would be that each of the 25 recipients receive a complete copy of the message in their inbox... attachments and all. So yeah, 50 MB.

Again, this is just my guess based upon my understanding of message delivery in Exch2K.

Exchange is a single instance store. The attachment is saved once to the store. 2MB. Pointers are created in the store to the attachment so that each person can access it.

Therefore a store level backup will increase by 2MB. A brick level (backup exec etc) backup will rise by 50MB as the same attachment will be backed up 25 times.

Hey Cat1... look at that! I was wrong, and a good thing too! Like I said, I was just guessing.
