The only way I have found to do this... Is to have your button inside a movie clip. When setting the visibility of that movie clip to false, the button becomes inactive. It in fact it dissapears completely. I have laid another movie clip (in fact a copy of the first one) for the disabled state. The visibility to that one is set to false when starting the movie. When you click the button it sets the visibility of the mask to true and the visibility of the button movie to false.
The enable button does the reverse!
