Hi, I recently re-installed XP pro. I had my usb phone handset plugged in and I think that this is why it doesn't see my onboard sound (it may not be). I have re-installed before with no problems that I can remember. Is there a way to solve this?
Thanks in advance, Matt.

Do you have the driver / software installation for the motherboard. If so, just stick that in and run the setup, and select to install the soundcard drivers.

Hope this Helps.

Hi, thanks for the response. No I don't think so. You know how it is. Is there an easy way to ask your mother what it is and then download such stuff?
Thanks again, Matt.

If you bought your computer as a whole system, as in it camein one big box, you plugged it in and off we go. Go to the manufacturers website, or tell us all the manufacturer, and model number, and we'll see if we can find it for you.

Hope this Helps.

Hi, thanks again. No I got it made for me by a company which no longer exists. Damn!
Matt.

right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager button. You are shown a list of all your installed and/or detected devices. Are there any with a Red circle+white "X" or Yellow circle with black "!"?

Hope this Helps.

Hi, thanks again. Yes, under other devices ethernet, multimedia audio controller and sm bus controller all have yellow question marks with exclamation marks too.
Matt.

start > run > type wbemtest > press Connect > repalce "root\default" with "root\cimv2" > press "Connect" > the buttons are now all active > press "Open Class" > type win32_baseboard > press the "Instances" button > after a few seconds it should return 1 value in the box > double click on it > there are 3 boxes, in the second one is a list of properties > you have the following "fields"; "Property", "DataType" and "Data".

scroll down and find the data for the following properties and report back

Chipset
Description
Manufacturer
Model
Name
OtherIdentifyingInfo
Product
Tag
Version

I want all these properties as these are things that are basically entered as text onto the hardware indentifying chips by the manufacturer, and there are no rules governing the input, so some properties report things that aren't exactly compliant, and many dont report anything.

If you have any problems let me know.

BTW..

I am assuming you have an onboard sound card, and not a PCI one....can you confirm?

Hope this Helps.
