ON an ME box, Access denied, ACL not accessible on share..

Cohort went to click on what was thought to be a shared folder on an ME box. Got a message denying access because ACL not accessible. Can anyone tell me why? It doesn't appear that the folder is a link or the result of a mapped drive. The share is on the box. Any help would be appreciated. I am hearing this second hand so only have the facts presented.
