I have an older Omniscanner. I went to use it one day and tried to do an autotest. The scanner came up with the display "cannot communicate with the remote".
I tried 3 different sets of adapters. I rebooted. I upgraded the software. I kicked the unit (a procedure Fluke recommends).
Strangely enough I can look at the version of the software of the remote, so it does see it.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. Fluke does not support this unit at all.
TIA

had the same problem with a Pentascanner, it ended up being batteries of all things.

I had a similar problem with my older model OmniScanner.
There is a short patch cable sullpied with the unit that is a grounded Cat-45 patch cable. I found that I needed to use this cable just to get the remote to sync and calibrate with the master side.

I also found them, doing odd things when the batteries get low.

I tried using just the power supplies without the batteries. I also tried using a cable with the metal grounding part. Same results.

Its strange. If the remote is off and I press the autotest button, the remote will turn on and the lights will flash but then I get an error message that no reference is set.

The no reference set error means you need to re-reference (calibrate) the remote to the master. Ther is a function in the tools menue to do this. This is when you will need the cable with the metal grounded housing. Once calibrated, the two units should work together.

I tried that. It didn't work. It goes to the calibration page, the bar moves a bit the I get the message, over and over.

I still have this problem. I have just purchased a replacement.

My wirescope used to give me the same problem untill I found I had to use the special 'calibration' cord first.after not using the tester for a period of time.
Then the problem went away.

Good Luck

Is this calibration cord a Microtest thing? I don't have one. I have cat 5 cords with metal around the mod plug, but I don't have a specific mirotest cord.

My OmniScanner2 does not have a special cable for calibration. Last year it would not calibrate itself and had to be sent back to Fluke for calibration.

If Fluke won't calibrate it for you perhaps they can recomend someone who can.

Another avenue is to contact instrument supply houses like us-instrument.com and see if they can help or refer you to someone else who can. This sort of calling around used to be easier when companies still answered their phones. What used to take at most several hours now with voicehell it can take days or weeks.

Fluke won't even talk to me about the scanner. It is no longer supported is what they tell me. I have e-mailed a few companies that repair electronic equipment. They won't respond.

With the Wirescope you have to re-calibrate the main unit to the remote by using the calibratioin cord.

I am not sure about the one you are using,it all depends upon the model you have I think.

Good Luck

Check the connectors where they insert into the unit. May be that a couple of pairs are not connecting properly. this would let the unit see the remote, give you info and power it, but not pass the necessary data back to the smart end to allow calibration.
Failing that, and assuming you checked the bateries as suggested by others, you would probably need to have it serviced.

I have PLA and channel for Cat 5 and 6 I have tried all combinations. Does anyone know of anyone that will service this PoS? Fluke will not.
