Greeting From an NT Guy,
I have been handed omni back II to install on our 9000 L series server. I am very green to unix but have a couple of questions.
1. I need to increase the logical volume segment for the opt directory. When I use sam to increase this I get an error stating the volume is busy and cannot be dismounted. How do I go about freeing this volume up so I can increase the size?
2. Swinstall during the specify source select network/directory/CDrom I get an error "Default source /var/spool/sw does not exist or is not a valid source and there are no other registered depots on server_name. You can type in the depot path on this host or choose a different host." How do I determine the mount point of my cdrom that I need to specify in the source depot path?
Thanks and please take pity on my ignorance,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Safest way to increase the size of /opt is to do it in single-user mode.....

You can mount your cdrom anywhere in your directory tree

like this...

mount -F cdrom /dev/dsk/c?d?t? /mnt/cdrom

if you don't know the hardware address (and I don't) there's a sam option that lets you mount the cdrom

You can find the hardware path of the cdrom from sam, I believe it is /dev/dsk/c3t2d0, then use
mount /dev/dsk/c3t2d0 /cdrom or whatever mount point you created for this.

You have to mount CD rom each time when you put new CD:
/etc/mount -F cdfs -o ro,cdcase /dev/dsk/c?t?d? /cdrom
(/cdrom directory must exist)
and unmount to take it back:
/etc/umount /cdrom
or on some HP
umount /dev/dsk/c?t?d?
Stupid Yes?

To find the proper device file for your cdrom drive, try:

"ioscan -funC disk"

This will show the device files with the hardware address.

To your first question. Do you have online JFS? If yes you can extend the logical volume while the filesytem is still mounted. If not, you must unmoun the file system before you can work with it.
