A question for the tecky people. Has anybody attempted to do a upgrade from a Omega system onto a CPP system?.
The Omega Disk Drive uses a 4mb floppy disk & it can normally be upgraded to a standard 2mb (1.44) floppy disk via the upgrade process on a standard CP1 to CP4 type processors.
This method uses a ribbon which is connected via the old Disk drive & onto the (floppy type)connector on the CPx. Does the CPP processor support this method as it's housed in a different cage!.
Would the answer be to upgrade to a CP3 / CP4 first via the method listed above, before doing another upgrade onto the CPP processor?.

Hi,

This is what I found on upgrading the software of an Omega switch:

Database requirements
If the system is running pre-release 19 software or the source platform is an
STE, NT or XT, Meridian 1 Option 21E, 51, 61, or 71, the database must be
sent to Nortel Networks for conversion.

So send you db to Nortel

Marc D.

If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed... Oh wait, he does...

I suspect that Nortel has forgotten about the older software versions for conversion upgrades. This would mean that a customer would have to have a data freeze on their system whilst Nortel carry out the upgrade process. Would they charge this as an "extra" for the Customer?.
Suppose that there is a problem, during the changout?. It's not an ideal answer is it?.

Many thanks for your answer. I'm not surprised, as I guessed it may be an issue.

It's only "evergreen" cos it's the colour of money.....;-)

Hello

it's possible to do that with a translation in a Thor machine. Load the database with the MDU conneted to CD rom connector on that machine. Dump the system. Then you will get a 2mb database diskette loadable on CPP machine.
You must have that kind of PBX avaliable for that.

Regards

Many thanks Dlesap for your message. I have already made plans to try out your suggestion in just over a weeks time.
I'm lucky in that my Lab area has all of the facilities at hand to use. I'll be loading up a CP3 / CP4 with V25.40b or Succession 03.00 software, Before attempting to do the MDU 4MB disk conversion.
I'm able to use a keycode that will give me the required ISM parameters. My only problem could be that the site ID will be different after the MDU conversion.
My guess is that it won't matter on the Thor to CPP upgrade.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

When I did an upgrade from Rls 23 (Core Processors)to 25.40B the utillity disk to connvert from 4mb to 2mb would not work. NT told me to do a data dump on the 2mb disk and that would take care of my conversion. It worked.

Many thanks for the help. My Meridian is a V21.19 Omega system. I'll keep you posted when I try it out next week in the Lab.

We have tried to upgrade straight onto the Succession V03.00 using a CP4 processor. Although it worked, We did however get a few SYS messaged. One referred to the "TAPE"!. I guess it relates to the old SL1's.
When doing the same method, But onto a V25.40b CP4. We had no SYS messages that caused any major concern.
The next stage is upgrade the customers database onto the Opt61 CPP. This should be a easy thing to do.
