ole server busy approach 97

I have an approach database written in and using approach 97, stored on a Windows NT network drive. Inside each record is a shortcut to a file which will open up in a 3d based viewing application (actify/spinfire 3d viewer), however randomly users will get an 'ole server busy' error when clicking the shortcut.

Quitting out of approach and opening the 3d view program manually then closing it down and re-opening approach will sometimes cure it, other times it wont.

Any comments as to why this would happen are greatly appreciated.
