I have been using Crystal reports for about 8 years but have always used an ODBC connection. I have a new system that is an SQL 2000 database. The application is a webbased app. The canned reports are crystal reports using an OLE ADO connection to the database using a Command. I have tried using CRX to modify their reports but I don't seem to have access to the Command. I have some reports I have created with ODBC but they won't work from the web app.
I have no clue where to start to create the Command and the OLE ADO connection or to modify their reports.
Is there any really good documentation for beginners on this subject? I have tried businessobjects website but not finding the beginner's level I need for this.

If you're using a Command Object, then use Database->Database Explorer and right click the command object on the right and select edit.

Using OLE ADO isn't always the best approach, in fact more often than not it isn't, it tends to be slow.

Unfortunately you decided to post that you use ODBC, not the actual database, so we've no idea if there's a better alternative, try posting the database.

We also don't know what "I have tried using CRX to modify their reports but I don't seem to have access to the Command." means in technical terms, try posting error messages or meaningful observations.

Don't seem to is purdy vague, right?

CRX means Crystal REports version 10. I can't change the way they want the reports to be configured. It is a proprietary database and web application.
I tried to select edit but it is greyed out. I also want to create my own reports using the Command option, not sure how
Thanks

Sorry, right, you need to make a connection to the database before you can edit it.

Use Database->Set Datasource Location and use OLE DB (or ODBC) to point to your database.

Once you establish a connection, you should be able to edit the command.

As for creating a command object, you just select Add Command below any connection to a database in the database expert (Database->Database Expert).
