I am resurecting an old win 2k server. It is running as a domain controller, terminal server and has wins running. When I ping it from an xp desktop I get a response but when I ping the desktop from the server I get timed out. The server does not seem to see any network resources (printers etc).

I am able to create a share and remote desktop works from inside but not from the outside (I have router configured with virtual server over port 3389). Also, I can not access the domain from the xp desktop.

Any thoughts would be helpfull.

Check WINS settings sounds like it isn't running or configured correctly. Also you might consider moving to DNS and term wins, DNS will work better. As for your server you really shouldn't running TS on a domain controller.
