Hello,

I am working on a legacy project that I think was done with Borland C++ builder 5.3 . Is there any place that I can get a trial of this software? Also, is there any place that I can look up the old versions of Borland to see if they will be compatable with XP?

Thanks

I don't remember C++ Builder 5.3. There was a version of Builder 5 and there was a free compiler version of 5.3. I think that Builder 5 used the 5.3 compiler. Borland spun off their compilers into another company. See if this link helps.
Their free compiler is now version 5.5 (see link under C++ Builder at their site).

Actually, I'm sure you're right. I think the program was using borland c++ 5.3 . When I did a search inside the files for builder I came across cbuilder3

Is there any place I can find a legacy version of code builder 3?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any legitimate sites.

I have C++Builder 1 and C++Builder 4 and C++Builder 6.

I can load a C++Builder 1 project and it is converted to C++Builder 4 fine.

Have loaded C++Builder 4 projects into C++Builder 6 as well and there is no problems with the program.

C++Builder does the changes for you from an earlier version to a later version.

C++Builder 4 and 6 programs will run on XP but the Crystal Reports of C++Builder 4 will not work in Preview if the data is too large.

That is my experience in C++Builder older versions.

Oh Man!
There was a lot I discovered with this project that won't work in Codegear 2007. It is nearly complete now. First off, the Borland Database Engine is horrible. Switching to ADO was the best bet. I also ran into truble with Report Printer Pro, now Rave reports because they had changed their source and object types. Also, any component package that I had needed to be rebuilt. This wasn't too bad aside from the codgear source changing namespaces and any reference to VCL35 type of BPIs had to be replaced with the current vcl version.
Also, I lost model view in the project upgrade.

Anyway, that's the deal. Talk later
