I am going to work on a PC that runs an old Seagate drive and uses Travan 8GB tapes. What is happening is when a backup is started Backup Exec is supposed to clear the tape before the backup begins. What it has been doing lately is it never gets past the Read, would this be a bad tape or just need cleaning? I do not know the backup exec version, has anyone else had this happen?

Thank you!

I had the same problem, called Seagate and the tech guy said the drive was failing. We installed a 10GB drive for backup and are in the process of locating backup software, I think Backup Exec 7.x will work and it is cheap.
