I am a very old PC user. I came of age using Lotus 1-2-3, and only migrated to Excel unwillingly, when a recruiter told me not to mention antiquated IBM software skills on my resume ;-)
in the old days, I could craft a routine, such as "todays date" which I always called Control+D, and it was convenient. also in mass editing, I could automate steps that were being done over and over.
I have tried six ways to the moon to create a "macro" in the excel definition of the term, but have never gotten it to work successfully. I just finished a spreadsheet where I had to analyze 10,000 lines of data, combining two lines into one, and it was very, very tedious.
I expect I am using the wrong terminology - I have looking in my excel bible and excel hacks, without success. any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
