I have a new client who has the old wall-mounted Partner Mail. When I enter xxxx as the mailbox and yyyyyy as the password, it works just fine. It will not, however, take the 9 so I can enter the second password and make changes. I read the documentation from Avaya just to make sure I remembered things properly, and it sounds like I should be getting the 9, second password prompt, and then go to the system programming menu. Any suggestions on why there would be no nine? Am I missing something? Thanks as always!

You can move the programming function to a different mailbox - for instance, for security after an employee was let go, we changed ours to mailbox 50.

You need to connect through the serial port, and run the configuration report, which will tell you which mailbox is used for administration.

Did someone change my mailbox numbers? Avaya has the 9997 and the 123456 in their public documentation...I thought it was no big deal. And if I connect with a serial port, is it hyterterminal? Will it automatically puke info to me? Thanks

9997 is always there, but you can change the admim functions to another mailbox if you want. If so, 9 won't be an option from 9997, you would log into someone else's mailbox, and press the hidden 9.

Hyperterminal, 1200-N-8-1, no flow control. The serial port is set for a modem, so you'll need a null-modem adapter to connect. Press return, it will ask you for the password, which is the serial number on the sticker.

Now you get a menu, one of the options is a configuration report, one screen at a time. Actually, very valuable information. The first screen will tell you what is the admin mailbox.
