I have a potential customer with a really old meridian system (probably 15 years or so with 4 lines 7 phones) and equally old meridian phones (M7XXX). To soften the expense blow can I reuse the old sets on a new BCM50?

I know I've used a couple M-series types with them, but according to doc below, they should all be compatible.

from NN40020-309 Telephony Device Installation Guide: "The BCM50 can communicate using digital telephones (Model 7000, 7100, 7208, 7316, 7316E/7316E+KIMs, 7406 and 7406E (cordless telephones), Norstar M-series telephones, ISDN telephones, analog telephones, and IP telephones and applications.

You can use these old sets but remember that old releases do not retain set volume. If volume is too low on the trunks you have to adjust the volume after every call.
Do a search on tek-tips and you'll find all releases compatibility.

The old sets seem to work on our BCM200 4.0 test system. But the sets don't have MWI. What are my options besides external notification?

By MWI you mean message lamp but you do have a display that shows "message for you".If they want MWI indicator they will have to go with the T series.
