We have an old HP "3si" printer that still works fine and we want to use it as an extra printer on our internet LAN. It's running off an NT4 Server and for the most part we are using NT4 workstations, although I have WIN 2000. At first it was connected and printing fine (while I was testing it to see if we could use it.) One of our departments had claimed it didn't work and replaced it with a newer model 8100.
Rather than throw it out. I was testing to see what was wrong with it. It squeeks and that seems to be all. Except that when I printed from it, it was printing too big. I suspect that while I was searching the menu for the settings to fix the configuration, I may have inadvertantly changed a setting, but now the system says "error status not available" when I try to print to it. This happens from both NT4 workstations as well as my WIN2000 PC. I have tried other apllications from MS word to ...test print .. to printing a web page and such. They all give the same error.
Unfotunately, we no longer have the manual, so I can't go back thru it to see how the configuration is set. However I did see that there is a line in the menu that says... "Network configuration= NO" which I changed to YES. But it doesn't change the error, and when I reset (turn off and back on) the printer it goes back to "NO" I can't seem to get it to hold there. Does anyone have any ideas?
thanks for your time and effort
