I have a computer that just died (computer A). I have taken the hard drive our of computer A. I want to put it computer B, which is a totally type of computer. If there wasn't a ton of software installed, etc. and was just files, i would obviously slave it, but I would like to run it as the only hard drive in computer B. After installing the hard drive in computer B I just get an error message when win2k begins to fire up. The error message is that the hard disk drive controller is missing. Inaccessable boot device.
Any suggestions.
thanks
Jeremy

Are the two computers similar? I don't know about 2000, but in Win XP you can't just swap from computer to computer (different hardware causes conflicts).

What does "old computer that just died" mean, are you sure it wasnt the circuit board on the hard drive?

This will not work correctly if PC A and PC B are not the exact same hardware wise.As drivers will needs to be loaded for each PC

Yeah, XP and 2K don't like it when you change all the hardware. Try booting from your Win2k CD and reapir your installation. Do not select repair from the first screen that offers repair. Select install Win2k instead. Win2k will then examine your disks and should find your old 2K install. You'll then be given the option of installing a fresh copy of Win2k or repairing the existing installation. Select repair at this point and let WIn2K do its thing. With any luck you should then be fine.
