old hard drive into a new computer with different mobo.can I do this ....the os is [ms pro]

You should be able to you will need to have the ID info for the case and the mobo when you boot the first time

Are you wiping the hard drive, or are you expecting its original XP installation to work on the new board? If the latter, it may not work unless the chipsets are very similar.

I can almost guarantee you there will be problems, especially if it's a SATA drive (you gave so little information).

Typically to get things to work you will need to install the hard drive, boot to Windows CD and choose the SECOND repair option, if you have SATA drivers load them at the F6 prompt.

Get ready for a night of Windows Update as all updates are lost in this procedure...
