old GP setting keeps reverting back to previous

I have changed the "max password age" on the default domain policy from an initial 41 days to 55 days

when i check again a few days later it has changed back to 41 days

I have done this several times and it keeps reverting back

is there a higher up security feature that is reversing my change? in other words how do i make this stick!

Do you have two domain controllers?

Network Admin
A+, Network+, MCSA 2000, MCSE 2000

and 1-2 in each of our remote sites
