could someone tell me if &quot;ne&quot; is the same as &quot;<>&quot;

I think that ne is for string, whereas <> is for anything (including strings) but, if you are using Flash version 5 I think they recommend using !=, which is the same as both...

Hmmm... reminds you of all the 'hello world' things you had to do at college... =)
