I'm starting a development project and the client has a very old (1992) version of Platinum accounting system that has been modfied a lot. I have the datafiles and the ddf files (file.ddf, field.ddf, index.ddf, view.ddf attribute.ddf - that's what they are called) but no software that I've tried can make head or tail of this, including an old version of DataJunction. What I need is to see the structure and preferably be able to extract some of the data, though the structure is more important than the data. Any ideas?

Best regards,

I have had to do something similar to that with a different accounting system. What I did was I had the ddf's and I set up an ODBC DSN referring to the ddf's (I had to install pervasive dll's, etc. on my PC.) Once you have a the dsn in place you can use MS Access or VB Data manager to see the tables and the fields within as well as extract data, etc.

There is a pervaise tool also called ddfease which shows you the structure without the need for a dsn.

I think smithware also have some kind of utility also.

I found joining tables to be very slow - I ended up using the (+) to use left joins which turned out to be much, much faster.

Please help me to convert Btrieve file in Microsoft Visual Foxpro DBF.

Thanks

You can also take a look at BtSearch at It can help you view the DDF files and their structures. There is also a print function that allows you to print the definitions. It has other capabilities such as exporting/importing to dbase or ascii. As well as editing on the fly.
