I work for a financial company, and I have been asked to find around 5 good OLAP vendors for SQL 2005.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Olap Vendor whose technology does what?

Do you need Cube engines? Reporting Applications? ROLAP tools?

OLAP Vendor is a very broad category.

We will need these abilities

ETL
Multi-Dimensional Modelling
Design Cubes
Custom UI

We already have

hyperion
Microsoft Analysis Services
Cognos
Microstrategy
Business Objects (Crystal Decisions)

But they'd like a larger list

Also, I'm sure you've noticed that I'm new to this type of technology software, so any advice/corrections are highly welcome.

My only experience has been with Databeacon

Also we need to have drag and drop functionality

ETL (Depends on $$$)
Included with SQL 2005
SQL Integration Services

$$$
DataJunction
Informatica
etc etc

Cubes
Microsoft Analysis Services

Reporting (Depends on needs)
Cognos Series 8 when released. IN series 8 You will be able to use a cube as a report source.

Proclarity

Panorama Novaview (built by the original builders of MSAS.

Alpha Blox

I only listed MSAS as the cubes as I have worked with both Hyperion and Congnos Cubes and they fail to compare in my opinion. Also Cognos has informally stated they probably will no longer enhance Transformer and are putting large efforts into leveraging MSAS cubes and all the new functionality offered in 2005 MSAS.
