OLAP Services

Hello,
I have read about the OLAP services. I want to explore the Intelligent cubes. But, how do I create an Intelligent cube. OLAP services - is it another software component that I need to install or does it automatically get installed with 7.2.1. The version that I am working with is 7.2.1. I highly appreciate your help.

Hi Shramana,

We have version 7.2.2, and would have to pay extra to get a license for OLAP Services. It might be the same with 7.2.1. You can create an Intelligent Cube the same exact way you create a report, but (one of ...) the neat thing about them is you can put a lot more metrics/attribute (whatever) on them, and choose to only show some of them. With olap services they give you an extra window in desktop and web, that shows you the objects you've already placed in a report, and you can see which ones you are showing and which ones you're hiding from there. There isn't anything extra that you have to do during the install, you just need the license for it. HTH. In the meantime, you could call up MSTR and get a trial license, which is what we did for a little while.

Some of the 7.2.x versions didn't have the licence setup correctly for OLAP services and relied on trust! (certainly pre-7.2.2). Goto the User Editor and add the 3 OLAP service options to a group/user (they are marked with *).

We had that problem too. We used OLAP services on version 7.2.0 without realizing that, until we upgraded to 7.2.1 and lost some of the functionality.
That was probably a good marketing trick on part of Microstrategy.
