Hi:
I have a time dimension in my cube and I want that when II browse the data in the cube instead of showinf "All Time" I can see for example the last 5 months (this imply having multiple selection in the dimension). For example the time dim hierarchy is:
<year>
<quarter>
<month>
<day>
And I want to display by default (but still the user be able to go up/down in the dimension) the last five months of the data (this means also that the months maybe from different quarters or different years)

Any suggestions will be pretty much appreciated
J

Create a Set within you time dimension. Something like

Code:
Tail([Time].[Months].Children.Members,5)

this assumes you haven't prebuilt you time dimension out to some ungodly date. Typically cube designers put in a few of the more popular time based sets used in time based analysis.

Thanks for the answer...when you said a set within the dimension you mean set the dafault member property to the set? I am working with only analysis manager... using mdx just to set some parameters. Itried your suggestion in the dimension editor, default member parameter but didn't work.
Any ideas on how doing that in the dimension editor.

Thanks
J

you would create the set within the cube editor and assign it to your time Dimension.

Hi MDXer, how can you assign a named set to a dimension? As a default member?
I have a set that gets the top 10 customers.

I'm not sure you can assign it as the default member in your cube but you could easily assign it through what ever reporting tool your using, except maybe access. But I'll take a look tonight.

From what I read you can create the named set but then the reporting tool to display the cube data must have the capabilty of displaying the named set. But still there can be a way.

OOPS In my last post I meant excel.
