Hi, I'm using WinXP and Outlook 2002 (XP) and annoyingly, each time I start it up, I get this error message advising that the data file (and most of my personal folders appear) was not closed properly and is being checked for errors.

I also uncradle my PDA before shutting down OL and I also recently installed an add-in that ensures OL is shut down before I shut down the PC.

But this can't go on. It's clearly a flaw in OL (as no errors are ever found and it happens every time) and it's really driving me nuts. I often can't use OL for at least 15-20 minutes until it's checked almost every personal folder.

I've scoured the net and can't seem to find anything helpful, but it certainly doesn't seem to be an isolated problem.

Does anyone have any advice/clue/tip on how I can stop this message from appearing please?

Thanks,
Pete

Could be that something else is keeping Outlook open after you think you have closed it:-

Also try compacting your file.

And a couple of Googled hits:-

Your personal file is probably damaged. Run the Inbox repair tool
(scanpst.exe) to fix it. Directions:
Or look up Inbox Repair Tool in Outlook Help.

When Outlook doesn't close properly, it does a selfcheck the next time you
use it - it's the same as running scanpst.exe manually. The best thing is to
figure out what is causing it to not close properly -
can help you see if it closed
and for possible causes.

Hi KenWright, been there, installed Outlook Shutdown add-in, no change. Compacted the folders. No change.

Ran ScanPST a number of times, no errors found.

As I said, this is an Outlook bug. I know for a fact that OL is closed when I shut down, and as I said, I'm not the only one.

I don't understand why this is not recognised as a bug.

Thanks for your time in responding, but unfortunately, nothing new to assist me.

Pete
