I am having a bit of an odd issue with Outlook 2003 and the read message receipts. I have an IMAP account. When I receive messages from my boss who has "require read receipt" checked, my Outlook sends the "message read" receipt to my boss after I have read it. Although I have a tendency to read them in the preview pane and just delete them, which then sends the "message not read" to him. I also have my home computer checking the same email account.
The issue is that it seems like my Outlook just decides to throw a fit every once in a while and two things happen. A)I come back to my computer and half my email is gone. I close Outlook and start it back up and it rechecks the headers and find them all. But any messages that are unread it thinks is a new message. B) my boss will get "message not read" from about 50 messages that I deleted like a week ago.
My first thought was that since I am checking this on two computers when I delete a message on computer 1, when computer 2 finds out it will resend a "message not read" receipt. But this has happened more then twice.
So can you think of anything that would cause Outlook to lose half of the headers until I restart outlook?
Is there anyway to stop "message no read" receipts and only send "message read" other then me marking every message as read before I delete it?
