Howdy. First this is NOT outlook express. It is outlook 2003. I have investigated that error code and there are a lot of problems it addresses, so here is a copy of the entire pop up:
Task ‘sbcglobal.yahoo.com – Receiving’ reported error (0x800CCC90) : ‘Your Incoming (POP3) mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or internet service provider. (ISP) . The server responded: -ERR problem retrieving message.’

I am getting the same emails over and over and over. I have walked through my set up with ISP, deleted and re-entered all the user information, shut down, restarted... everything I can think of and nothing helps. I use AVG free edition, but it does it even with that turned off. I would appreciate any help in resolving this matter.

Many thanks
Mark

I take it you have Office 2003 as well. If so, is it to service pack 2?

My apologies. I have Windows XP. All updates that I am aware of have been downloaded.

Have you tried setting this account up and retrieving mail from another computer? You could even set it up using Outlook Express just to test, would be good to try first.

Also, when you say deleted and reentered all information, do you mean just the user information in that account or did you fully remove the email profile? I'd recommend completely removing the profile and also clearing any managed passwords that may be stored in User Accounts.

--Quick n Brief Instructions--
1. Remove user mail profiles and accounts: Start> Settings> Control Panel> Mail> Email Accounts & Show Profiles, delete them out and start from scratch.

2. Delete cached user info: Go to Start> Settings> Control Panel> User Accounts> Advanced tab> Manage Passwords> Remove any stored info.

*My instructions are assuming there's only one account for this user, write down any settings you may need and proceed at own risk ;)

I removed all profiles... I am the only user on this computer and unfortunately I do not have another computer I can try on. I did not delete the cache settings... I will delete everything, including that and try again. I will get back shortly.

Thanks for the ideas
Mark

I found a use I didn't know about: ASP.Net Machine A...

What the heck is that?????

That is used for IIS, not important unless you are using local webserver, but I wouldn't delete it. If you already have run %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\"Version"\aspnet_regiis.exe (may vary depending on Windows directory) and it will fix it.

* %systemroo%=C:\windows typically

You don't need another computer to test the account, tech support "should" have checked it, but who knows. Just open Outlook Express and create a new account in there to check it. This will help narrow down the problem.

OK, I just set up Outlook express and it immediately downloaded all the emails sitting on the server.

WTH??? So ... Outlook 2003 is corrupted somehow? How do I fix it and then get everything from Express to 2003?

Well, we're narrowing it down a bit now, try and run the MS Office Detect and Repair. You can do this by opening up Outlook, going to Help>Detect and Repair.

p.s. don't worry, we can still get your emails from Outlook Express ;)

OK, I did the Detect and Repair, closed Outlook and reopened, reconfirmed all account information. When I hit send receive I got error 08x800CCC0F 'The connection to the server was interrupted'.

But I have IE open and working so I know my connection is open.

Trying to keep you from having to uninstall/reinstall MS Office, so here's 2 last ideas, if they don't work, I'd go ahead and uninstall and reinstall MS Office.

First create a different user account on your computer, log onto it, setup your Outlook, try and check your email.

Next if that didn't work try and disable any antivirus, antispyware, firewall programs you have, including Windows Firewall.

Ok, so this ain't going to be the most elegant and correct ways to do this, but it's quick n easy.

1. Go to Start> Run> MsConfig> uncheck everything under the Start Up tab.

2. Go to Start> Settings> Control Panel>Windows Firewall> Turn it off.

3. Reboot your machine, if there is any antivirus, antispyware, or firewall software in the notification area in the bottom right by the time, disable or exit them.

4. Try using Outlook.

Cross your fingers, I'm about out of ideas now ;)

Oh heck... I guess I have to try to find that disk, huh? I have noooooooo idea where it is...

OK, this is weirder and weirder. I opened up a new user with full admin approval. Loaded up a new account in Outlook and it immediately downloaded the last 5 or 8 messages that were being held on my ISP server. These are all dated today and after the last bunch I downloaded on Express.

I just opened up Outlook under my normal user name and it sent an outgoing messages and I received NO pop ups. So I sent myself a test message. Message went out and was received cleanly. What in the heck happened? I am absolutely confused now.

I GUESS it is working OK, so I can delete the new user, right? How do I transfer all the emails from Express to 2003?

Oh... and thank you SO so much for your help. This absolutly baffled me and my ISP (SBC Global) and I really, really appreciate the help... even if I don't understanad it!

Mark

AND... I forgot to mention... it came in with AVG certification, so it was scanned on the way in.
