Okay now that ive gotten everything working, i then tried to install Linspire on the old drive, thinking it would just add onto the files that are already there.. Course knowing me, I forgot that linspire is LINUX and therefore would FORMAT the harddrive due to it not being the correct file system, etc. I managed to turn off the computer right when it said "Initializing Partition" which is the step it does before the actual format (installation comes after the format). It was only at 0% when i turned off the computer, but since then I haven't been able to access that partition on windows. I tried accessing it from LinspireLive (u can run linspire off the cd with this) but no luck there. So i got "Virtual Lab" Data Recovery Software and had it scan the whole drive... It found the partition that i can no longer access, and the files are all still there.
I was even able to recover a few of my (smaller) files, using the trial version... So it looks like it's just the boot sector that got wiped out, since all the files are still there and working properly.
I know theres a way to get the boot sector recovered since NTFS keeps a backup of it at the end of the partitions, but i didnt understand how to retrieve it using DiskProbe when i was using the tutorial.
Is there a program that will get my boot sector back for me automatically without me having to figure out what sector it is, etc?
