Hi guys,

we had the thread about the domain I wish to purchase -- it was owned by a business that is long extinct, and I bought one of those monitoring services to pounce on it the moment that is possible.

Update.

OLD status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
NEW: REDEMPTIONPERIOD

What does REDEMPTIONPERIOD mean and how can I enhance my chances to get this domain? Thanks a mil!

NY

redemtion is the period between expiry and the domain becoming available. usually 30 days, next stage is PENDING DELETE ( 6 days).

Cobbled from a few pages on the internet... this description should answer your question.

A domain with status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD has expired and was not properly renewed for at least 40 days.

The registry operator for .com and .net (including Internationalised Domain Names) has implemented a 30 day Redemption Period. The Redemption Period is applicable for domain names that have expired and is in addition to the grace period that follows the expiry of a .com or .net registration. Domains names that are not renewed within 40 days of their expiry date can now be restored during the Redemption Period that starts 45 days following the expiry date and ends 75 days following the expiry date.

The Redemption Period provides a final opportunity for you to Renew a domain that you did not intend to let expire. However, the process is costly, both in fees and in effort.

The domain can only be redeemed by the original owner of the domain listed on the WHOIS prior to the deletion. If you are not the original listed owner of the domain, speak with your favorite Registration company about how to determine when a REDEMPTIONPERIOD domain will be available for registration again.

thanks guys.

Interesting. The would-be redeeming company has to pay hefty fees?

That ain't gonna happen! Company doesn't exist, assets gone to the four winds, no successor company.

Looks like I'll have a reasonable shot at this one if I stay vigilant.

thanks. NY
