my windows buddy is going to host website on a unix (woo hoo) box, but being windows, has no idea of what direction to head.

i, being web development, have limited knowledge, but told him this...

familiarize yourself with:
* apache for serving web pages
* squirrel mail for in/out mail handling
* perl modules and other scripting mods (php/python/etc.) for scripts
* plesk for user interaction with server
* install mysql (?)

i know this is 'no control panel' zone...so...anyway...

that's as far as my knowledge goes...what am i missing? hope someone can shed some light...this is interesting to me...

thanks.

You have the right list with the exception of the mysql. The only time you will need this is if you are going to serve web pages that require database access.

yeah, DB is important...so, nothing else is needed? this is for hosting company, so it will have end users as customers.

thanks for your help, btw.
