I've inherited a Windows 2000 server that's running WinMgmt, and it's taking up a lot of CPU cycles. I've tried to go into Properties to see if it's logging too much, but it's taking up so many cycles, I can't even get into Properties.

Is it ok to disable the WinMgmt service? (This machine is not a domain controller, but it does run our SQL Server.)

Thanks for the reply, but it was precisely that article that we were working off of... the problem is (was) that we couldn't choose Properties... it would just hang, and never connect.

We restarted the server, and lo and behold, WinMgmt is no longer running, taking up so many cycles. Perhaps our predecessor had started it, and never turned it off.

In any event. we're good to go. Thanks again.
