Ok, so this isn't technically a "Desktop" question...

My laptop decided, the other day, that it would no longer display with any brightness. Upon researching the problem, I discovered that it could be either the backlight or the actual screen itself. Either way, I have a KDS which is an off brand and so finding parts is impossible.

The question is, can I use a similar screen/backlight or does it HAVE to be the one that came in system? I have no fear of taking the thing apart and fixing it myself but I don't know what to do to get the parts.

Thanks
