Hi,
I upgraded my Compaq Presario laptop by installing a retail Windows XP Home on a clean, new drive.

Now the touchpad is so sensitive and loopy that the cursor will suddenly jump to random row/column (mouse cursor? or even offscreen) in a document when I'm typing even if I don't seem to touch it.

This is maddening. Anyone ever seen this? Know how to fix it?

I downloaded all the updates I could find from MS, and got a set of CDs from HP/Compaq (but it's a pre-HP machine) and including a touchpad driver update in there somewhere but nothing seems to work.

I know the system was not this jumpy when the original ME was installed on it.

All the touchpads I've used with XP have done that type of thing. Esp. after each service pack.

Look carefully at the touch pad settings. On one machine I used, there was a sensitivity setting that helped but I have to download the driver direct from the manufacturer.
