Hi all,

I've just posted a thread regarding whether it is a good idea to cross link multiple of my sites and the answers are "No"(thanks to the wonderful people here and other forums or else I would have already built multiple sites and probably have already gotten kicked out by G! Whew!)... well so I am thinking... I've read many resources and books regarding SEO, and alot them says it is perfectly legitimate, in fact a good idea to seperate my main site's content into a few other sites. Now I won't link them together though. The point of doing this is so that my sites will have a better theme. Instead of having one site selling multiple categories of items, I could have targeted sites for each category. What do you think? Please advice.

Thanks in advance!

I think that you'd want to do that only if your sites were going to be very comprehensive....enough stuff about shoes to be a stand-alone shoe site....look at the content...if there's enough to justify it having a whole site for itself, then go ahead, otherwise....but...if they really are different, then why not link them? If you have one site selling shoes, and another selling books, and they don't overlap, I don't think there's any problem at all with linking them, since the content is totally different (no matter what the company name is).

Thanks Rick for the reply! What I am worring about is well... Like I said before I have a main site, and I plan to seperate my main site's content into a few other sites. Now say my main site sell 3 pair of shoes(more than that in reality of course :)) - Prada sneakers, Gucci boots, Chanels shoes. Now if I plan to develope another site that contains my shoes section, that shoes site will also have the same identical merchandise as the main site's shoes section - Prada sneakers, Gucci boots, Chanels shoes! So I just don't know if this is dangerous... would my competitor be able to get me in trouble because of this(he would probably say: "He has different site design but the same merchandise!")? Please advice.

Thanks in advance!

Hi JoJoH.

Whilst that would be perfectly safe also linking from theme to main site would be ok and give the main site a small link pop boost. The effort to create and\or maintain content would increase exponentially. From a SEO point of view one main site is better.

Lets equate it to bricks & mortar selling from a shoppers point of view.
What is better (or easier) going around several shops, buy your shoes in one, get a bag in another then go off looking for accessories, Or, do you go to the mall where everything is in one place and you can see them altogether? (thinking US style).
It would be different for the UK of course,[humour] Here your girlfriend\fiance\wife\mistress\partner (delete if not applicable) would go around 12 shops look at the same shoes in them all then go back and buy them in the first shop because the assistant was nicer![/humour] [ponder].

Maybe somewhere down the line themed sites will become useful, but for now it would only reduce your ROI and increase the workload. Concentrate on getting your main site noticed and getting the conversion rate up.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

Hi Chris!

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I should probably put my effort in promoting my main site first, then I'll see how it goes(ranks), and decide later on if it is necessary to have a few other sites.

Thanks again Chris for all your help! [smile]
