ok, Im on a novell Netware Network with Win 98 workstations.

THe IPs are set manually, so static - there is no gatway on the network - hence other pc's which show no default gate work perfectly.

however, one pc keeps defaulting a gate on the same IP as i specified for it's IP address. Non of the other pc's do this - the gateway is not visible under tcp/ip for the NIC - but shows up when i check in winiscfg or using the ipconfig command.

i can ping the station from another station it's fine - but the one with the default gate won't ping out.

i tried 2 remove the nic & the tcp/ip protocal an come again - but no luck. i even tried removing all protocols and nic aqnd reinstall win & netware but ergh no.

don't understand it when i gfo to another pc and change it's IP manually it doesn't automatically produce a gate.

any help PLs

Could be a duff NIC. Can you try one of the ones that you have proven? See if the problem reoccurs (or follows the NIC).

When the default gateway is coming up the same as the IP of the PC, it usually means another PC on the network is using this IP. Since you set these IP's manually, you might have goofed. Check it out.

You might have to uninstall client32 using the uninstall program.
Then reinstall or update your client on that pc.

I have had this happen with a bad nic. Replaced nic and it was fixed.
