Bye bye to yet another newbie assembly thread with someone who actually seemed to be getting somewhere.

On the contrary, Tessa and I over the last week have been helping a newbie with some simple concepts of assembler programming.

Just when he's getting the basic idea, the thread gets red flagged and deleted.

It really brasses me off.

There's few enough newcomers showing an intelligent interest in assembler as it is without discouraging them like that.

I've no objection to the "give me code so I can get A* in my assignment" threads getting red flagged, but that one was different in my opinion.

And might even have been of use to someone else.

But hey! what do I know, I've only been an engineer since 1974 and a programmer of sorts since 1979.

I had the same experience a while when a replied to someone
who had trouble converting a decimal number to its ASCII
equivalent, simple really. But the next day the whole thread
was gone!

What are the criteria to remove a thread/post?

(answer quickly, before this thread is removed :)

I think that some people take the definition of "professional" in an extreme way.

After all, a goodly number of these "non professional" posters will end up as professionals, just the same as us.

A little help and encouragement should not be too much to ask.

Surely the "gimme code for my assignment so I don't have to do any work myself" posters are easy enough to identify.

And are far more prevalent in the C/C++ fora than they tend to be here...

Finding a job and getting the most out it is in the heart of being professional, right?
One of my threads got red flagged long time ago because I was helping a member with a question of this nature. I tried to discuss it with the management with no luck. I guess this was when I stopped being as active as I used to be.

The primary challenge of every software development team is to engineer the illusion of simplicity in the face of essential complexity.

Same thing happened to me on Eng Tips.

Didn't post on there for over a year.

Hopefully the lot of you will still answer the "I'm a nob"
questions, I still will.
I dont like this red flagging idea.

And I was loving it to give somebody help in the basics of
assembly programming just by knowing the pittfalls are
still happening in my one code.
The questions refresh my one looking at programming and
remind me of not falling in them myself again.
The mind forgets normally only the plessend things, but in
coding programs it tends to forget the hard lerned facts.

So, on you who still wants to know the basics,

DO ASK THOSE QUESTIONS HERE, we will answer them.

hardware, software developer for many years.

Hey guys, just don't give up.
It should be clear for you that everybody appreciate what you and the other skilled guys are doind on those forums and how useful for us is the sharing of your experience.

Well I'm not giving up, but it really does brass me off...

Why those particular threads were flagged is beyond my understanding.
