Hi everyone.

Ive been working on a site for 12 months now and have been doing alright on Google MSN and extremely well on Yahoo.

Been away for three weeks and just got back and have noticed my rankings/listings have pretty much disapeared from Yahoo. I had top rankings on a number of keyphrases and nearly always listed in top 10. But now nothing!!!!!

Could anyone shed some light on what has happened??

thanks, im panacking!!!!! :(

Hi, Im back.

ok. This is the site
Keyphrases that are now not listed where they were:

A1 Assessor award NO1 YAHOO /a1_assessor.php 09/07/05
care level 2 NO2 YAHOO /hs_care2.php 09/07/05
nvq level 3 in care NO4 YAHOO /hs_care3.php 07/07/05

These are just a few examples there are a lot more that have gone the same way.

???????

Chris, what you say sounds encouraging. Are you pretty sure that things should sort themsleves out?

Or is it something ive done

Thanks
Guys

Your page is back so I guess your ok now. What happens is these engines do routine updates or "indexes". When this happens rankings will fluctuate alot but normally if you have a solid page, optimized well, and you ae not doing any "black hat" stuff your rank will come back.

Be patient, normally goes a week at most before it comes back.

hi coldfused,

just to let you know the positions i was achieving as set out below have not come back:

A1 Assessor award NO1 YAHOO /a1_assessor.php 09/07/05
care level 2 NO2 YAHOO /hs_care2.php 09/07/05
nvq level 3 in care NO4 YAHOO /hs_care3.php 07/07/05

I am waiting impatiantly for them to appear.

My refferells from Yahoo in the past 2-3 weeks has been 0, silcho, zero!!

It would be usually around 150 a week at least. As you can imagine this is affecting the sites business.

and theres no "black hat" stuff on the site either.

Ill wait and see....

By the way is there a any tool out there which can tell you the position of a specified webpage from a specified search phrase?

Ideally in Yahoo, then i could see where the pages are now listed under the search phrarse in my last post

Thanks

try the Keyword Tracker at Digital Point. Covers Google (API key needed (free)). Yahoo and MSN can be added if you have the PHP script (available from DP) that you can run on your server.

OH I see, Sorry I was looking at Google's results. Doing fine there.

How long has it been gone from yahoo? 3 weeks?

Also besides Chris's suggestion WebPositionGold from Webtrends is a great piece of seo software. Not free however.

Chris, thanks ill check the keyword tracker out.

coldfused,

yea thats right i was away for three weeks and looking at my stats i havn't had a hit from yahoo about 2 and a half weeks.

any more thoughts?

A NEW DEVELOPMENT.

This is weired:

If i go to and search A1 Assessor award it appears No.1 - as it was a few weeks ago

BUT

If i go to its nowhere to be seen.

This is not the case however for the rest of the keyphrases, they are still missing without a trace.

I think probably you just need to be patient. MSN and Yahoo are going through major changes now breaking themselves away from Google so just be patient. More than likely, your pages will return.

Of course thats just a guess, but most likely you'll be fine.

Just patience needed Yahoo (like Google) have several datacentres and they are not all synchronised, so as they sync up strange results sometimes occur.

When things glitch out just wait a couple of weeks before panicing or trying to "fix" it before it is actually proved to be broken.

breaking away from Google ??? That was 12 months ago

I think the breakaway might have started a year ago, i'll trust you if you say it has been that long but that does not mean they have perfected their algo's yet and that is obvious. Results are all over the place in my reports.

Alot worse than Google's after a major update, so I'm just guessing, that they're still breaking away and perfecting some algo's.

Just an opinion though, I'm sure you know better than me, of course.

the changeover was June 2004, and was total.

There was no breaking away, Yahoo were already using the Inktomi crawler (which they owned) for around 12 months before that to build up their own database and then switched over. It took 2 to 3 days to roll out the change to all DCs and that was it.

They have been tweaking their algo on a regular basis since then. What you are seeing is probably the results of an algo update that Yahoo rolled out a couple of weeks ago
IHY thread

These things usually take a little while to settle which is why my advice to Elle is to hang fire and wait a few weeks before changing anything.
