Recently I had a situation where one of the client computers was improperly mapped to a shared drive on our network. The user became disconnect from the network and the files were no longer accessible. Upon investigation of the client computer, I found that the My Documents folder was mapped to a server that was decommissioned about a month ago.
My next option was to restore the data from our backup server which is running backup exec but the files were not there either. These files just mysteriously disappeared.
In order to prevent this from happening again, I am considering using the Offline Files and Synchronization Manager in order to have a local copy of files as well as a server side copy.
I would great appreciate any comments or suggestions to prevent this from happing again.
Our environment is Windows 2000 Native mode, with XP and2000 pro clients.
