Is it necessary to backup any files in addition to the instance subfolder of ordata? And which service(s) need to be stopped prior to copying the files?

Oracle 92 on Windows 2003
Thanks

Fortage,

The reason why yours is a "trick question" is because the files vital to a successful backup/restore can reside in any folder, on any drive that is available to your machine..."oradata" is simply one of those virtually infinite number of folders.

Therefore, to confirm that you have the files vital to a complete backup, ensure that you copy all of the files names that result from these queries:
Code:
select name from v$controlfile;
select member from v$logfile;
select select name from v$datafile;
select name from v$tempfile;
You should also copy your init<SID>.ora file, but since that file is not checkpointed with the other files, above, you do not need to ensure that any particular version of that file resides with the other backup files.

Let us know if this answers your question(s).
